Curious – did anyone follow up with the Sufi guy that wanted to do a thing for us? It passed consensus.

    • Tony,

Yeah shot him an email yesterday. I’ll let someone know if he gets back. I told him that coming to a Multicultural WG meeting at the time would be a good way to get it all worked out but I think he wanted to make sure he had a specific contact and didn’t want to get lost in the noise so he gave me his contact info. I have his number…[Read more]

    • He came to the WG meeting and is going to come for our multicultural fair in march :)

    Dear Working Groups:

Speaking with Ian, and discussing it with others, I have decided it might be the best plan to turn on the Forums that are actually built in to each Working Group, so that they might be more used by the group. There are a few reasons I haven’t done this yet, and have in fact asked for input on the matter. Regardless, it may…[Read more]

So, a note on the Queer Caucus. Or rather, a question/comment. I see that though it’s still called the Queer Caucus, it is also being referred to as the LGBTQ Caucus, which is confusing unless you know all of the words it is referring to. Also, it seems to me that all of these words have their own meanings, roots, positive and negative…[Read more]

    • rico, you aren’t entirely wrong. For the newer generation the word QUEER is a reclaimed word and something many (including myself) like to use proudly. However, there are also many that will potentially find it offensive – particularly the older members of the LGBT community who grew up facing it as a derogatory homophobic slur. While we…[Read more]

Hey there multiculturalers. I was curious. When you are discussing representing and celebrating different Cultures we are involved in—in particular when you speak of a Multicultural festival—are you generally referring to ethnic cultures, social cultures, or both and more? Meaning, simply put, those that are Christians, Pagans or Muslims, those…[Read more]

Don’t know if I was as clear as I’d like to be in that last question / comment. I enjoy sociology, and the study of culture, but have always been struck by the almost infinite number of cultures we are each a part of that assemble our definition of self. In particular, when we for example that we have quite a lot in common with another…[Read more]

Right on. That makes perfect sense. Certainly, women, ethnic minorities, and sexually diverse individuals seem to have almost as difficult a time in the movement (globally) as they do in our culture, sadly. I was at the TCU london site, and there were lots of women making this point. Sexism and sexual harassment in particular.

      Thanks for your reply.

You’re right about the Scots. Their parliamentary system is strong, and in fact, in the current system, they are allowed to have more of a say over those back in mother england than the english do on them. These reasons, mixed with a much stronger economy, is likely to support separation fully from the Crown—and actually, they are more inclined…[Read more]

Oh, a note on public / private / hidden groups: Under Admin » Settings you choose this. In any case, people can join the group; it’s just a matter of visibility ranges. So public means everyone sees it and can join with a click. Private sees description but no other details until joined, which requires approval. Hidden is just that. It doesn’t…[Read more]

So, did you folks need Member Groups for Caucuses, or will they be a separate group of Caucuses? Regardless, I made a couple more of you Admins (now all three of you can promote other members and mess with the settings. You won’t break anything.)

Once you create a member group, you can always pull it apart from that group to the top level, as…[Read more]

I will post this in each Working group. Mr Al-Haj asked that I explain the Projects Tab and capabilities. I admit, the wording isn’t obvious, and they (the developers ) have received some comments about the UI. That said, here we go.

Firstly, group admins can set whether or not their group’s Projects Tab shows up at all, and whether or not…[Read more]
