Occupy KC Treasury Process

[ Treasury Working Group page ]   [ current treasury report ]

General Fund:
Currently, all monetary donations go into OccupyKC’s “general fund.” The funds in this account are collectively owned by the occupation and are managed by the Treasury workgroup. Each week Treasury will make a partial report of incoming donations and expenses publicly available on the web and at the General Assembly. Each month a full report of OccupyKC’s finances will be made public on the web, and a hard copy will be available at the physical occupation.

Safety of the General Fund and Incoming Donations:
Physical monetary donations can be deposited on site to Treasury’s safe (any occupier will be happy to show you where it is) or to a member of the Treasury (who can be identified by bright green arm bands) who, in turn, will also put the donation into the safe. We are glad to accept online “WePay” donations, on site cash donations to an identified treasury member, or through the post office. We are now able to accept mailed items! You may send things our way via USPS. Our mailing address is Occupy KC, PO BOX 410162, Kansas City MO, 64141. Please note that we cannot cash checks or money orders made out to Occupy KC at this time. If you would like to contribute in this way, please email treasury@occupykc.net and ask for the name of one of our verified representatives able to take care of this. Cash through the mail is generally not preferred, due to safety, but has been done successfully and the security of a locked box helps ensure that safety. We are pleased to accept care packages of any type through this PO Box, also.

Online donations are made through WePay, which is the online donation source used in most occupations. The technical owner of the WePay funds is called the admin. With documented approval from WePay, OccupyKC’s admin is “Treasury OccupyKC” to ensure that these funds are collectively owned. Each member of the Treasury, including Treasury liaisons (one from each workgroup), will be moderators on the account. A moderator is able to do everything an admin can do, other than moving funds or switching admin responsibility. Every action, and who initiated that action, is able to be viewed by every member of the WePay account and will be publicly announced in the above mentioned reports. If there are any discrepancies in account activity, it can be instantly seen and addressed by any moderators.

Expenses:
Each workgroup has agreed to have a Treasury liaison in order to have their financial needs met while still holding the workgroups accountable to keeping careful records. Most constant needs (printing, propane, kerosene, port-a-potties, etc.) are either being met by a long-term donor or are not being taken from the workgroup budget, though the workgroup may manage the item (kitchen managing the use of propane and the likes). General workgroup needs are met by the petty cash of $25.00 a month, which is provided to the Treasury liaison for that workgroup. The workgroup Treasury liaison is held accountable to manage the funds given, including receipts and responsible spending of the funds. Any additional monetary requests from workgroups would be requested to the treasury by the workgroup’s liaison. Any purchases over $150.00 would need General Assembly approval.

Non-monetary Donations:
Non-monetary donations are very much appreciated. Camp-related donations are handled by Town Planning. Food, blankets and other comfort related donations can be brought by the site. Inquiries about larger donations such as technology should be directed to the Treasury email: treasury@occupykc.net

If you have any questions regarding our process, monetary donations, non-monetary donations, or would like to assist in sustaining our movement with a donation, please email the Treasury workgroup at treasury@occupykc.net
