Occupy Oakland Building Takeover

Occupy Oakland will be holding a weekend long festival starting this Saturday, January 28 with the takeover of an empty building where it will host workshops, panels, a film festival, live music, assemblies and more.
The Oakland Rise Up Festival runs through Sunday night and features over 50 speakers and performers including former Black Panther Party leader Elaine Brown, anarchist anthropologist and member of Occupy Wall Street David Graeber, feminist, revolutionary & historian Roxanne Dunbar-Ortiz and many more.

On October 24, 2011, the General Assembly of Occupy KC agreed by consensus to send the Park Commissioners the following statement:

We, the General Assembly of Occupy KC, in pursuit of free and robust debate of public issues, standing in Solidarity with Occupy Wall Street and the more than 2300 cities already involved in the Global Occupation Movement, are collectively resolved to stay committed to our cause.

In the beginning, there was a connection of people in the Kansas City area who had heard of what was going on in NYC at OWS, and in cities across the world, and wanted to be a part of what they knew would be a global phenomena.

These first four Pirate Pad docs were to be the first semi-official General Assemblies, sorting out who, what, where, when and how. Look at how far the Occupation has grown. Incredible!
